Keyword Research Part II

In Part I, I introduced you to Yahoo Search Marketing

(Yahoo! Sponsored Search lists your business on top sites like Yahoo!, AltaVista and CNN. Sign up and get a $25 credit)

And I also talked about a little tool I used called Micro Niche Finder that will take the guess work out of locating those long tail keywords you need to help your CTR (click through rate) become higher in your PPC campaigner and they will also help you get your click at a lower CPC (cost per click). Both Yahoo and Micro Niche Finder used in conjunction with each other will yield traffic that you would not normally get.

In this post, I want to finish with key word and by telling you how you can squeeze all the key words out of your product or service. As I told you in Part I, this is not rocket science and anyone can do it and you should use this advise to your benefit.

Let’s say your niche market was in “household plants”. Now, this is was a hobby of mine years back. I don’t have any websites or blogs up about this topic, but I could create one quickly because it is something that I know about. Even though it’s been years since I have had a household full of plants, I can still produce content about it because I studied it as a hobbyist. Within the plant world your product “household plants” have to create children, for example. This procedure of making another like kind planed is called propagation. Plants propagate (sort of like giving birth) by seeds, softwood cuttings and division. If a person wants to get a great start on new plant, there is a product out there called “Rooting Hormone”. Rooting hormone will cause the roots of a plant to grow like crazy and will help to ensure that the newly propagated plant gets a great start. Because I know this about rooting hormone and most people don’t, I will choose to sell this product.

We now have our product to . Rooting hormone. This is where you will be amazed. Most people will purchase a bottle of the hormone and read the back panel. This will give you some good keywords. They will surely used the “Plant or Plants” in there list. Another or too will come up such as “Plant Growth”, but after that, what else can we say about this product. If they are lucky, they will come up with 5 or 6 other keywords and they will quit. They will think that this is enough good words and they will put those key words in their meta area and use them in content. Then they will submit the site to the search engines and wait to get it indexed. Time goes bye and they get a couple of hits, but no conversion to sales. WHY?? Because they did not get ALL THE OR KEY PHRASES that are out there for that product. 90% of newby websites that sell a product or service have this same problem. It’s not a wonder that people give up and try to find something else that will make them money. Problem is that they will do this same lack luster key word on every site or blog they have, and the story will be repeated over and over again.

How do you find the right key words and key phrases you ask?? Well let me tell you. IT’S NOT A MATTER OF FINDING THE “RIGHT” KEY WORDS OR KEY PHRASES. It’s a matter of “working” to locate every one that you can find. Let me explain how you can do this.

Remember the product “Rooting Hormone”. Go look up that product on any search engine. When you have found the product on their website, look up at the top of your browser and click on the “View” tab. Look down the list and find the “source page” link and click it. This will open up in either a new tab or new window. What you are looking at here is what the web page looks like (in html code) to your web browser. More importantly, you will need to find the “META ” line. Copy every single you find on this line and past it into your notepad program. Everyone has notepad or something like it. Just past the copied info in there as you are not done yet. Close that source page window.

Next, you will need to read that web page which has the “rooting hormone” info on it. Try and look for adverbs and nouns that are used together to “describe” your product. This will give you your key phrases. Finding these will give you some incite as to how a human will type in info in a search box to try and find the product THEY want. You noticed I said “they”. It’s about the CUSTOMER … not you!!

Once you have exhausted this page and found all the key phrases and possible a couple of new key words, go back to the search engines and put in the “rooting hormone” name again. Go through the same process as above for each web page that sells your product or service. Do this for at least the first 3 pages of the search engine results. Some of you are saying, “but that’s a lot of work! Hell yeah it is!! But you want to make money with your product or service don’t you. Don’t ever think that selling a product or service or even Internet marketing is easy. This is a business and it’s damn hard work. But the results will pay off in the long run.

A last word about products. I love them. They are a great tool. I use Micro Niche Finder my self, but these tools don’t get to the nitty gritty, and that’s what you need to give you the edge. If you made and sold “Frankenstein Masks” and created a web site just to sell that one niche, you need key words and key phrases that will get traffic to your store that is interested in YOUR MASKS. If you only use a tool to get your key words and key phrases, you will come up with the words “Halloween” “witches” “parties” etc. Now these are keywords that you can use to help get people to your site, but they don’t convert to sales as well as using keywords like “Frankenstein Mask” “Vinal Frankenstein Mask” Frankenstein costume”. Do you see what I mean. You need to let your potential customer know that you have EXACTLY what they are looking for in your web site. This will get their attention and you will be know as the expert in your niche if all the key words that will relate to what you sell.

Until my next post………Hope your making money!!
